THE DEADLINE CLUB HONORS INSIDE EDITION WITH TWO AWARDS
New York, NY – May 20, 2009 – The Deadline Club, the New York City Chapter of the Society
of Professional Journalists, awarded INSIDE EDITION with two “Rubes” for excellence in journalism at its 2009 annual awards dinner Tuesday, May 19th. The “Rube” is a distinctive statuette designed by the late Rube Goldberg and presented by The Deadline Club to winners in a variety of journalism categories.
In the television journalism category of “Series or Investigative Reporting,” INSIDE EDITION was awarded the “Rube” for its investigation into “Congressional Travel.” The series, reported and produced by INSIDE EDITION’S Matt Meagher, Charles McLravy, Marissa Yaremich, Filip Kapsa, Bob Read, and Charles Lachman, uncovered that millions of tax dollars are being spent every year when congressmen travel to exotic locations around the world on so-called “fact-finding” trips.
In the television journalism category of “Business Reporting,” INSIDE EDITION was awarded
the “Rube” for its investigation into Craftmatic Beds. The report was produced by Matt Meagher, Cindy Galli, Charles McLravy, Bob Read, and Charles Lachman, and exposed how salesmen take advantage of elderly, vulnerable customers. INSIDE EDITION had a second nomination in this category for its report on Cash4Gold. The series was reported and produced by INSIDE EDITION’S Matt Meagher, Ned Berkowitz, Scott Phillips, Filip Kapsa, Bob Read, and Charles Lachman.
The National Society of Professional Journalists is 100 years old. Its NYC chapter has been
serving local journalists for more than eight decades. At each year’s awards dinner, The Deadline Club recognizes the finest journalistic work from media companies in New York. The Deadline Club event was held at the Waldorf Astoria.
