FIFTEEN OF THE COUNTRY’S BRIGHTEST KIDS TO COMPETE IN THE 2009 “JEOPARDY!” KIDS WEEK

AIRING JULY 13TH – 17TH

Culver City, CA- Beginning Monday, July 13th, America's Favorite Quiz Show ® will celebrate youth and academic excellence with fifteen of the nation's brightest 10 to 12 year-olds competing in Jeopardy! Kids Week .

A traditional favorite among viewers and Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, Kids Week debuted on the Emmy® award-winning quiz show in the summer of 1999.   Over $1.4 million in cash prizes have been awarded to the nearly 200 young contestants since its original telecast a decade ago.

"I believe our viewers will enjoy meeting these impressive, young players," said Alex Trebek.  "These kids are quite remarkable, and it's always a pleasure to present our nation's future leaders."

The contestants were flown to Los Angeles this spring to tape five shows in which they competed for cash prizes.  The winner of each show is guaranteed a minimum of $10,000, with 2nd and 3rd place taking home at least $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.  The shows are scheduled to air Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, 2009.

Jeopardy!, winner of 28 Emmy awards since its debut in 1984, was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most awards won by a TV Game Show. The series is the #1-rated quiz show in syndication with more than 10 million daily viewers. Jeopardy! is produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company. It is distributed domestically and internationally by CBS Television Distribution, a unit of CBS Corp.
