PHILADELPHIA EAGLES HEAD COACH ANDY REID SPEAKS CANDIDLY WITH DR. PHIL ABOUT CONTROVERSIAL PLAYER MICHAEL VICK
(Sept. 16, 2009, Los Angeles, CA)…Earlier today, Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid and Dr. Phil McGraw had a candid telephone conversation centered on controversial NFL player and convicted felon, Michael Vick. Coach Reid, who requested the phone call and gave Dr. Phil permission to share his comments, said, "Dr. Phil, trust me. I have looked this kid in the eye, he is sincere, he has learned the error of his ways and he really wants to do the right thing." The telephone conversation happened prior to the first ever LIVE DR. PHIL taping in Philadelphia that included a panel of guests who discussed all aspects of the Vick case.
The panel, led by Dr. Phil, included Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell; DogPAC Founder, Tom Hickey Sr.; NOW 97.5 DJ and animal welfare advocate, Joey Fortman; President of the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP, J. Whyatt Mondesire and Sports Director for Eyewitness News, CBS 3 and former NFL player, Beasley Reece. As a dog owner himself, Governor Rendell admitted to having "mixed feelings" about the situation while J. Whyatt Mondesire of the NAACP said that he sees a "racial tinge in the commentary going on." Reece also confessed to being troubled by Vick's behavior but said, "I think I have to stand up for his right to go back to work."
This episode of DR. PHIL aired LIVE today as a part of the weeklong Season 8 Premiere of the show, in which DR. PHIL broadcasted live for the first time ever from his “studio on the street” in New York City and Philadelphia to talk to his audience to hear what matters to them, and offer real-life solutions to their real-life problems.
