THE HOSTS OF THE DOCTORS TO TRAVEL TO HAITI TO OFFER MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND TRANSPORT MUCH NEEDED MEDICAL SUPPLIES FOR THE WORLDWIDE RELIEF EFFORT
January 21, 2010 (Los Angeles, CA) On Saturday, January 23, the hosts of THE DOCTORS, from the Emmy-nominated syndicated medical talk show, will travel to Haiti in partnership with The American Red Cross and World Vision, to provide medical relief to those injured in the devastating earthquake that struck on January 12th. “We’re doctors first and foremost,” said Dr. Travis Stork. “We look forward to joining the massive relief effort and to do what we can for the survivors.”
Dr. Stork, along with co-hosts, OB-GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson, plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon, and renowned pediatrician Dr. James Sears, will arrive on a chartered cargo plane loaded with over seven thousand pounds of much-needed medical supplies, specifically requested by aids organizations, including bandages, antibiotics, anti-infectives, basic first aid ointments, sanitizers and instruments, all made possible by generous donations from Medical Assistance Programs International, Med Wish International, Intelligent First Aid, More Prepared, Biotex Laboratory Services, and other groups.
Dr. Stork is an Emergency Medicine physician currently practicing at Vanderbilt University. As founder of Maternal Fetal Care International (MFCI), Dr. Masterson has traveled several times to Africa and India to help save the lives of pregnant women and establish birthing clinics. Dr. Stork was also recently in Africa providing aid to HIV/AIDS patients, and Dr. Ordon was already scheduled to be in Haiti next month as a surgeon with Smile Train, the philanthropic organization that provides free cleft surgery for millions of poor children in developing countries. Dr. Sears has worked as a doctor on wilderness rescue teams in the Sierra Mountains in California.
“The situation is grim,” states Stork, “and it will not change anytime soon. What we see and do in Haiti will become part of future episodes of THE DOCTORS so that we can keep the need for aid fresh in the minds of our viewers long after the headlines fade.”
